Most bridal beauty regret comes down to timing, not choices. A facial booked two days before. A wax the morning of. Henna applied so close to the event that the colour never had a chance to deepen.
None of that is about doing the wrong thing. It is about doing the right thing at the wrong moment. Skin, hair, and henna all need lead time, and once you know how much, the planning gets simple.
Here is the timeline we use with brides at QST Esthetics.
The short version
Start a facial series about six months out, spaced four to six weeks apart. Book the makeup trial and confirm the mehndi date around three months out. Schedule resurfacing treatments one month before. Final gentle facial two weeks before. Brow shaping five to seven days before. Waxing three to five days before. Henna one to two days before, never the morning of. Hair, makeup, and veil setting on the day.
Before Anything Else: Book Early
Ottawa wedding season runs hard from late spring through October, and appointments in that stretch fill months ahead. If your date falls in it, book your bridal appointments as soon as you have the date, well before you have the details settled.
Winter and early spring weddings have more room, but the same timeline applies. Only the competition for slots changes.
Six Months Out: Start the Skin Work
If you want a visible change in your skin by the wedding, this is when it starts. Not because anything takes six months to work, but because facials are spaced four to six weeks apart, and meaningful change comes from a series rather than a single visit.
Book a skin care consultation. Your esthetician looks at your skin as it is now and builds a plan around your actual concerns and your date.
Set the cadence. Roughly one facial every four to six weeks from here to the wedding. That is around five or six appointments, enough to work on texture, tone, and clarity without rushing anything. There is more on holding a rhythm across services if you are scheduling several at once.
Start any new home products now. Never in the final month. New actives sometimes cause an adjustment period, and you want that behind you.
Three Months Out: Lock the Details
Book your bridal makeup trial. Give yourself enough runway to try a second look if the first is not quite right. Bring photos of your outfit, your jewellery, and looks you like, and come with your skin prepped the way it will be on the day.
Talk through veil setting. How your veil or dupatta sits changes the whole silhouette, and it is much easier to plan alongside your hair and makeup than to improvise on the morning.
Confirm your henna date. Mehndi is usually applied a day or two before the main event, and those dates go quickly through wedding season. Book it while you still have the choice.
Add anyone else who needs an appointment. Mothers, sisters, aunts, close friends. If family is flying in, work out their appointments now, because the days right before a wedding are the hardest to schedule.
If Your Wedding Runs Across Several Days
Plenty of Ottawa weddings are not a single afternoon. If yours has a mehndi night, a nikkah, a reception, and a walima spread across a week, the timeline stretches rather than repeats.
Work backward from the first event, not the biggest one. If the mehndi night is Thursday and the reception is Saturday, your waxing and brow appointments need to clear Thursday, not Saturday.
Book henna to land before the first event you want it visible for, understanding that the stain will be at its deepest a day or two later. For a Thursday mehndi night with a Saturday reception, that timing usually works in your favour.
Do not schedule new treatments between events. Once the run of days has started, you are maintaining, not experimenting.
Talk it through when you book. Bring the full schedule to your consultation and it can be planned as one sequence rather than a series of separate appointments.
One Month Out: The Last Big Appointments
Second last facial. This is where you can still do resurfacing work like microdermabrasion or dermaplaning, with plenty of time for skin to settle.
Trial anything you have not tried. Every service you plan to have on or near the day should have been done at least once before. The week of your wedding is not the moment to find out how your skin reacts to something new.
Book a massage. Planning takes a physical toll that most people do not notice until it is over. A relaxation massage at the one month mark is not indulgence, it is maintenance.
Two Weeks Out: The Final Facial
This is the sweet spot. Close enough that your skin is fresh and glowing on the day, far enough that anything unexpected has time to calm down.
Keep it gentle. Hydrating and calming work is ideal here. Save the deeper resurfacing for the appointment a month earlier, and see which facial should you book if you are choosing between them.
One Week Out: Shaping and Smoothing
Waxing, three to five days before. Not the morning of, and not two weeks before either. Three to five days gives any redness time to fade while keeping you smooth through the event.
Brow shaping, five to seven days before. Brows look their most natural a few days after shaping. Same logic, and it applies whether you are waxing or threading.
Nothing new. No first time treatments, no new products, no experiments. Everything at this stage should be something your skin already knows.
One to Two Days Out: Henna
Mehndi wants time. The stain continues to develop for a full day or two after the paste comes off, which is why applying it the morning of almost always disappoints.
A few things that make a real difference:
Leave the paste on as long as you comfortably can. Several hours at minimum, overnight if your schedule allows.
Keep it dry afterward. Avoid water on the area for as long as you can manage after the paste is removed. Water too soon is the most common reason a stain stays pale.
Warmth helps. Keeping your hands warm while the paste sets supports a deeper colour.
Natural henna only. If anyone offers a paste that stains black almost immediately, decline it. Genuine henna develops gradually from orange to deep brown, and that gradual change is exactly what you want.
Plan around it. You will not be able to use your hands normally while the paste is on. Do not schedule mehndi against anything that needs them.
The Day Before: Rest, Not Treatments
Nothing new, nothing aggressive. Hydrate, sleep, and let everything you have already done do its work.
If you want one appointment, make it a face and scalp massage or a foot and leg massage. Calming, no risk, and genuinely useful the night before a long day.
The Morning Of: Hair, Makeup, Veil
Bridal hair and makeup, veil or dupatta setting, and whatever else you have planned. This is the only part of the timeline that happens on the day itself, and it goes far more smoothly when everything above is already behind you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I start facials before my wedding?
About six months, if you want visible change. Facials are spaced four to six weeks apart, so six months allows a full series. Three months still helps, and even a single treatment two weeks out makes a difference on the day.
When should my last facial be before the wedding?
Around two weeks before, and keep it gentle. That leaves your skin fresh while giving anything unexpected time to settle. Deeper resurfacing work is better placed about a month out.
How many days before the wedding should I wax?
Three to five days. That allows any redness to fade while keeping skin smooth through the event. Avoid waxing the day before or the morning of.
When should I get my mehndi done?
One to two days before the event. Henna keeps developing for a day or so after the paste comes off, so applying it the morning of rarely gives you the depth of colour you want.
How do I get a darker henna stain?
Leave the paste on as long as comfortably possible, keep the area warm while it sets, and avoid water for as long as you can afterward. Always use natural henna, which develops gradually rather than staining dark immediately.
Should I do a bridal makeup trial?
Yes. A trial around three months out gives you time to adjust the look, or try a different one, without any pressure.
Can my family book appointments too?
Yes, and it is worth arranging early. Group bookings around a wedding date fill quickly, particularly through Ottawa's wedding season.
How do I plan for a wedding that spans several days?
Work backward from the first event rather than the largest one, so waxing and brow appointments clear that date. Bring the full schedule to your consultation and it can be planned as a single sequence.
How far ahead should I book if my wedding is in the summer?
As soon as you have the date. Appointments from late spring through October fill months in advance.
