Booking a first appointment somewhere new takes a small amount of nerve. You do not know the space, you do not know who will be in it, and if you have never had a particular treatment before, you do not really know what happens once the door closes.
That uncertainty keeps a lot of people from booking at all. So here is the whole thing, start to finish, with nothing left vague.
The short version
QST Esthetics is a women owned, women only spa in Orléans, Ottawa, with an all women team. Appointments are booked in advance with no walk ins, and your intake form is completed before you arrive. Treatments happen in private rooms, you are draped throughout, and undressing is limited to what the treatment requires. Aftercare guidance comes at the end of every appointment.
What Women Only Actually Means Here
It is not a marketing line. It describes who is in the building.
QST Esthetics is owned by women, staffed by women, and serves women exclusively. There are no men on the team and no men in the space, at any point, on any day.
For some people that is simply more comfortable. For others it is the reason a treatment is possible at all, whether for reasons of faith, modesty, past experience, or plain personal preference. We do not ask which it is. The policy holds either way.
Everything happens in private treatment rooms with the door closed. You are never asked to undress beyond what a treatment requires, you are draped throughout, and you are welcome to keep on anything you would rather keep on.
Before You Arrive
Book online, in advance. We are appointment only, with no walk ins. That is deliberate. It means the room is ready for you, the time is yours, and nobody is being rushed through so someone else can be squeezed in.
Fill in your intake form. You will receive it when you book. It covers your skin, any sensitivities, medications that affect treatment, and what you are hoping for. It takes a few minutes and it genuinely shapes the appointment. Filling it in beforehand also means your treatment time is spent on the treatment.
Come as you are. No need to arrive bare faced. Makeup is removed as part of any facial.
A few small things help.
- For a facial, pause retinol and strong exfoliants for a few days beforehand.
- For a wax, let hair grow to about a quarter inch and skip exfoliating that area for a day or two.
- For a massage, eat something light rather than arriving on an empty stomach.
- Arrive five minutes early if it is your first time. Not more, not less.
When You Arrive
You will be greeted by name and shown where to put your things. If you are early, you can sit and wait without anyone hovering.
Your esthetician will walk you through your intake form before anything begins. This is the part people often skip past, and it matters most on a first visit. If something on the form needs explaining, or you left something out, this is the moment.
Then you will be shown to a private room and told exactly what to remove, what to leave on, and where to sit or lie down. You will have the room to yourself while you get settled. Your esthetician knocks before coming back in.
During Your Treatment
You will be told what is happening before it happens. Especially on a first visit, particularly for anything unfamiliar. No surprises, no silent hands.
You can talk or not talk. Some people want to chat the whole way through. Some want quiet. Both are completely normal and neither needs explaining.
Say something if anything is uncomfortable. Too hot, too cold, too much pressure, a product that stings, a position that hurts your back. None of that is a complaint, it is information, and it lets us adjust. You are not being difficult by speaking up.
You can stop at any point. For any reason, without justifying it.
Afterward
Your esthetician will talk you through what to expect over the next day or two, and what to avoid. Common aftercare:
After a facial. Some redness or warmth is normal and usually settles within a few hours. Skip makeup for the rest of the day if you can, keep sun exposure low, and hold off on actives for a couple of days.
After a wax. Redness and small bumps are common and typically fade within a day. Avoid heat, swimming, and tight clothing on the area for around twenty four hours. Your esthetician will walk you through what to use at home and what to leave alone.
After a massage. Drink water and take it easy if you can. Some tenderness the next day is normal, particularly if it has been a while.
You will also get an honest read on what your skin or your schedule actually needs, and how often to come back. If that means a specific service, we will say so. If it means nothing more than what you are already doing, we will say that instead.
Bringing Someone With You
Plenty of first visits happen in pairs. A friend, a sister, a mother, a daughter. Group bookings for weddings and events are common too, and our bridal timeline is a good place to start planning one. If you would be more comfortable not coming alone, book together and let us know when you do.
Younger clients are welcome as well, with a parent or guardian present. Ear piercing in particular is often a first visit for a much younger client, and we take our time with it.
What We Will Not Do
We will not upsell you. We will not comment on your skin, your hair, or your body in a way you did not invite. We will not push a product you do not need or a package you did not ask about.
The point of the appointment is that you leave feeling better than when you came in. Everything else is secondary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is QST Esthetics really women only?
Yes. The business is women owned, the team is entirely women, and only women are served. There are no men in the space at any time.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. QST Esthetics is appointment only, with no walk ins, so that every booking gets an unhurried room and a full time slot.
Do I have to undress?
Only as much as the treatment requires, and you are draped throughout. You can keep on anything you would rather keep on. Your esthetician will tell you exactly what is needed and leave the room while you get settled.
What should I do before my first facial?
Pause retinol and strong exfoliants for a few days, arrive with or without makeup as you prefer, and complete your intake form in advance.
How long before a wax should I let hair grow?
About a quarter inch. Hair that is too short is difficult for the wax to grip, which makes the appointment less effective.
Can I bring a friend or family member?
Yes. Book together and let us know in advance. Group bookings for weddings and events are welcome.
What if I have never had this treatment before?
Say so when you book. Your esthetician will walk you through each step before it happens, and you can stop at any point.
Ready When You Are
A first appointment should not require nerve. Book it, and let the rest be easy.
